“If you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it's your world for a moment. I want to give that world to someone else.” ― Georgia O'Keeffe
Just like the incredible artist Georgia O'Keeffe, the details of nature fascinate me. I have always enjoyed looking closely at flowers in particular, studying their shapes and textures from the time I was a child and young artist. So even though I love to take photos of beautiful landscapes, I spend even more time trying to get the perfect up-close shot of buds, petals, pistals, imperfections, butterflies, and insects.
As O'Keeffe pointed out, this takes time. She said, "Nobody sees a flower ― really ― it is so small it takes time ― we haven't time ― and to see takes time, like to have a friend takes time.” Much about my photography is about taking the time to really see things, as well as helping others to see the beauty in the details of nature.

Prickly Pear Cacti, Series I
A series of six photographs of Prickly Pear Cacti that are producing new pads or growing buds. I am fascinated by the contrast between the old, rough looking pads that are a sedated shade of green and the bright, fresh looking shoots.
Flowering Prickly Pears
A series of seven photographs of flowering Prickly Pear Cacti spotted in Austin, Texas. Their blooms are absolutely gorgeous!
Coral Glow Series
A series of five photographs of the Coral Glow Red Yucca plant, blooming in the springtime in my current home of Austin, Texas.
Texas Spring Flowers, Series I
A series of photographs of early springtime flowers in Austin, Texas, standing in contrast to the dry earth and weeds surrounding them. Even though I long for big fields of rich green grass, these surprising glimpses of life are often the most hopeful signs of spring to me.
Bluebonnets Series I
A short series of photographs of the bluebonnets in Austin. The bluebonnets are the first wildflowers to take over entire fields in the springtime, starting in late March. People go a little crazy for them, not only because they are beautiful but also because they are the first big sign of spring and the start of good weather. They're also photographed a lot, so I don't tend to try to take as many pictures of them myself. But being a transplant in Texas, I had to snap at least a few bluebonnet photos, both close-ups and of the bluebonnet fields.
Texas Spring Flowers, Series II
A series of photographs of fun spikey flowers that I have spotted in Austin, Texas in the springtime, one with a little visitor.
Fields of Wildflowers
A series of photographs of the wildflowers that spring up everywhere in Texas beginning in late March. It's incredible how many waves of different wildflowers take over the fields, the highway medians, and every other available patch of ground all around the state every spring. It's one of my favorite things about living in Austin, along with all the barbecue and tacos.
Pictured here are Texas Mountain Laurel (the purple flower), Prairie Coneflowers (with the obscenely tall centers), and Indian Blankets.
Texas Summer Flowers, Series I
A series of photographs of flowers that I've spotted blooming during the summers in Austin, Texas.
Peacock Flowers
A series of photographs of Peacock Flowers, my favorite flowers in and around our current home of Austin, Texas.
